About the TV Channel ORF 1

ORF 1 is an Austrian nationwide public-service television channel operated by Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF). The history of the channel dates back to the beginning of television broadcasting in Austria: the first ORF television broadcasts went on air on 1 August 1955, while regular broadcasting of the first television channel began in January 1957.

ORF 1 is aimed at a broad audience and combines news and entertainment programmes, films, TV series, sports broadcasts, television shows, quiz shows, comedy and satire. Its schedule also includes news bulletins, reports and programmes covering important events in Austria and around the world. A significant part of the schedule consists of ORF's own productions, Austrian TV series and entertainment formats.

The channel regularly broadcasts major sporting events, including football, winter sports and motorsport. Special news and entertainment programmes are also produced for children and teenagers. ORF 1 is one of the main television channels of Austria's public broadcaster and broadcasts from the ORF media centre in Vienna.
